| Astronaut Judy Resnik |
…That Ida Street was awarded the
first AAUW Educational Fund fellowship of all time. This was
in 1888 when Ida won $350 to study English at the University of Michigan.
Today, AAUW gives scholarships up to $30,000. For example,
Judy Resnik, the astronaut who died so tragically on The Challenger in
1986, received her doctorate in engineering and became an astronaut
through an EF fellowship. She was a member of the Clear Lake,
Texas Branch of AAUW.
Thanks to Jo Harberson,
who shared AAUW’s past, present and future at a Branch Leadership Workshop
on August 1, 2009. We are passing along snippets of her
history gems in this weekly column. |
