Carrie Ellett was guest speaker at the
Tri-Branch Luncheon.   She spoke about encouraging positive change in young people.
Positive change was the topic of keynote speaker Carrie Ellett at this year’s Tri-Branch Luncheon held on Saturday, February 4th at Sunol Valley Country Club.

Mary Lynn Pelican introduced Carrie who held luncheon goers spellbound as she spoke on a subject she’s passionate about:  “Empowering Youth as Change Agents.”   Carrie is a Michigan State graduate with a degree in journalism and a desire to help young people find their voice and create positive change in their communities.

She has worked with non-profits such as Girls for a Change, Habitat for Humanity and the Girl Scouts.   Carrie also worked in West Africa where she found that young people had the energy to bring about positive change but not the resources.

Her mission is to give young people the tools necessary to effect change.

Carrie is currently creating a survey for young people to help them determine what they really want to change and how they can make that happen.  We were all inspired by this remarkable, dedicated person.

Over 60 members and their guests attended the annual gathering.  The branches who stage this get-together are:   Livermore/Pleasanton/Dublin; Castro Valley; and Fremont.

It was a warm and glorious winter afternoon.  Guests mingled and enjoyed the warmth of friends, browsed the gift baskets which were auctioned as a fundraiser for AAUW Funds, and generally enjoyed a great lunch and speaker.

The Co-president of our branch, Jo Szeto, welcomed everyone and explained how AAUW Funds helps to support women in higher education.  Lorelei Self, AAUW Funds Director, was introduced along with the AAUW Funds Chairs for each of the three branches.
