This year’s Inter Branch
Council Leadership Workshop was full of good information, good company and good food.
It took place on
Saturday, July 31 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the beautiful and plush
Stratford at Countrywood Senior Living facility in Lafayette.
In attendance were
five of the six Executive Team presidents: RoseMarie Everett, Jeanne Delp,
Jo Szeto, Carolyn Hedgecock and Shirley Gilbert. Mentors Mary Lynn Pelican
and Kathy Garfinkle also attended the workshop.
The purpose of the
workshop is to acquaint new and returning leaders with the resources and
support the AAUW State of California offers to presidents and officers of our organization.
Then there were breakout
sessions where invitees could find out what the California website offers,
learn about college connections, and expand awareness of AAUW.
During lunch leaders
got an opportunity to renew friendships and make new ones in the beautiful
patio area of the senior living facility.
After registration
and a super continental breakfast there was an overview by AAUW-CA
Funds Director Lorelei Self about how the world of funding works
for the chapter, the state and national. Lorelei took leaders
on a tour of AAUW funding programs telling the way to designate donations,
what each fund did, etc. CA President, Gloria Taylor, dressed in green,
put the finishing touches on the morning presentation.

In the afternoon there
were more breakout sessions about membership, financing state and
local projects, and alternate board structures. In the latter
session Jeanne Delp talked about our own branch with its six presidents
and the success of this alternate way of leading.
The best part of all
was to meet leaders from other branches and realize how lucky we are
to be part of such a great association. |
