Girls and Parents
Acacia Fashion Show models pose after their spirited walk showing off Chico fashions. Models are:  Charmaine Kawaguchi, President of the New Haven Teacher’s Association; Betty Robinson, resident and retired teacher; Shirley Gilbert, our Website Editor, Elizabeth O’Donnell, resident and teacher; Edith Ecklund, resident and retired school nurse; and our own Mary Lynn Pelican.
On Saturday, November 5th, the Acacia Creek Retirement Community staged an elegant luncheon and fashion show.   Fremont Branch was a big winner in a variety of ways.

First, the fundraiser was staged to help both our branch's Tech Trek program and the New Haven Unified School District Foundation.  We were both lucky to be awarded $900 each in donations.

Second, Mary Lynn Pelican, Tech Trek Chair for 2011/12, was one of the beautifully turned out models to delight the audience during the showing of Chico fashions.

Third, Tech Trek graduate Rhea Kerawala, who went to this year’s Tech Trek camp this summer, and the Co-President of our branch Jo Szeto, talked feelingly about the Tech Trek program and thanked the Acacia Creek Retirement Center for offering to donate to our worthy cause.

And finally three of the Fremont Branch representatives present were lucky enough to win raffle prizes.   They were:  Shirley Gilbert, Jo Szeto and 12-year-old Tech Trek girl Rhea Kerawala.

The Acacia Creek Retirement Community is a 305-acre residence for seniors, with a sweeping view of the Bay, high on a hill in Union City.  Gentlemen residents were dressed in tuxedos and guided guests throughout the beautiful community facility.   The luncheon was held in the Center’s gracious dining room and the fashion show was dazzling as guests munched on dessert.

Fremont Branch member Emily Riebold donated prizes for the raffle while Lois Johnson, Acacia Creek resident, recommended that Tech Trek be the recipient of a donation from the proceeds of the fashion show.

All in all, it was a glamorous and generous affair.
